Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: Lady began her day with her ‘drop’ skill in the kennels, around other dogs. At first Lady was a little reactive, but once the trainer asked for a drop, she settled down nicely. It took a minute or so for her to want to take treats, but she got there! The trainer began just asking for drops a few kennels over until she relaxed more. Then Lady progressed closer to the dogs. Again, she was reactive with her first dog interaction, but with the use of her drop skill, she listened and engaged with the trainer instead. For the remainder of the session Lady did so well with keeping focus on the trainer, all while ignoring the barking of the other dogs. Keep up the great work with her at home, if needed remember to use a lure into her drops if she is being really stubborn and not listening, she will work for a treat if she gets a whiff of it! Focus: Distraction B+
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: Next up, Lady continued her training in the kennels, but this time worked on her ‘place training’. Again at first, Lady was a little reactive as a new dog had been added to the kennels, but she settled down once in her drop skill to begin with. The trainer had placed the bed in the middle of the outside kennels, so Lady had dogs on either side of her, and she did really well! She was a little slow in going to place, but she still went onto the bed, even if it was not the quickest, which is still good!! Keep building on this at home, it is great that Lady is able to go to place while around other dogs, especially as she would recognise place to be where she can relax. Amazing work! Focus: Distraction B
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) Comment: To finish up, Lady worked on her ‘loose lead’ walking in the cattery. She had great engagement and beautiful loose leas. There was only 1 cat in the cattery today, but still proved to be a distraction for Lady! She also visited our resident birds and had a suss of them. Lady did so well today with all these distractions, keep on pushing her at home!! She is a smart girl, just needs a bit of reminding sometimes to ignore a few new things. Great work!! Focus: Distraction A
