Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Muzzle Conditioning Comment: First session for Kracka was muzzle conditioning. The trainer did this while Kracka was in place. Kracka took a couple of seconds to turn towards the muzzle and start to want to train. But once started Kracka was looking for the treats and keeping his nose in to find them. The trainer got the muzzle strap over Kracka’s head a couple of times but next time will get another trainer to help, as treats need to be continuously given while doing the strap up at this point. But Kracka did a great job. Focus: Repetition B
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) Comment: Next up for Kracka was loose lead walking. The trainer started in the classroom and Kracka settled straight into the session with great engagement. The trainer then took him outside and here Kracka did start to pull. In the car park the trainer walked in a small area and concentrated on getting Kracka’s engagement back, using the yes marker and changing direction a lot. By the end of the session Kracka was walking well! Next time it would be good to practice in the training area where the grass is providing all the smell distractions! Focus: Distraction B
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: Kracka’s final session was drops. The trainer took Kracka into the grassed training yard and Kracka wasn’t wanting to get in position straight away. Once he was in drop he did hold it quite well. Although a couple of times he broke for a chase of a fly or a good smell. The trainer shortened the duration and did more repetitions to get Kracka dropping as soon as told. By the end of the session he was very focused and dropping well. It was a great improvement from the start of the session. Focus: Distraction B
