Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: For his first session today Kong worked on his red light green light drops at the pony club. We had fun getting him all excited running around, then suddenly stopped and asked for a drop! Kong dealt with this well and immediately plonked himself into position, there were a couple times where he was just too excited so we had to monitor just how happy he was getting so we didn’t push him too much. Kong loves this skill and it’s great to push him! Focus: Distraction A
Skill learnt: Trick Training Comment: For Kong’s second session we worked on his basket ball skill. We set up the basket ball hoop and got him to target it a few times. After he was doing that we introduced the ball and got him to pick it up, when he picked it up we tapped the hoop to remind him and this encourages him to bring the ball closer. He had lots of good attempts and even a few successful ones where the ball actually went through. He really loves skills that make him think and he kept going back for more! Focus: Repetition C+
Skill learnt: Trick Training Comment: Kong’s last session today was focused on sit pretty. We used a soft mat to help him balance a little better and so it wasn’t as hard on him bum. We lured kong into a sit position and kept moving the lure upwards, encouraging him to raise his front legs. He did this straight away so we decided to work on building that duration. To do this we lure him up but hold the treat, if he holds it longer than the previous attempt he gets the reward. Kong did really well with this and held it for approximately 5 seconds! This skill takes lots of strength and balance so keep working on this one, it’s a great workout for them. Focus: Duration C+
