Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Targeting (touch) Comment: Kiki In kikis first session we trained touch, this skill help with concentration levels and helps your bond with him as well. Also something fun for Kiki to do. Kiki did pretty well with this skill he was getting a bit distracted at first but with some simple luring of the nose he regained his focus. Next session I would like to work on this more but maybe had the word touch to it to see if he pick up on the word or not. Training this at home is as easy as getting something he can touch his nose on we used a wooden spoon we would use, outing it in front of his nose just enough for him to reach it I would tap on the end of the spoon with my other hand and he would touch it, when he did reward with “yes” and treats. Focus: Duration B+
Skill learnt: Recall Comment: In his second session we trained around. This skill is a great recall session and involves place skills as well. Kiki did pretty well with this skill we were doing lures around the cone and back to place, as the session progressed we slowed the lures down and slowly standing up straight and doing them instead from his nose. In his next session I would still like to work on this skill and fade the lures even more if we can. Training this skill at home is as easy as having his bed and putting something in front of his bed about half a meter from it for him to walk around, lure his nose of the bed and around the object when his full body is around the object say “yes” but don’t reward till he’s on his bed. Focus: Repetition C+
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: In his third session we trained place outside with distance. He knows place really well but I wanted to see what would make him break so we went outside and tried it from distance. Kiki did really well with this skill even with all the doggo distractions and other farm animal distractions. In his next session I think he has this skill perfect. As he would listen to me from a meter from the bed. Training this at home is as easy as putting his bed outside maybe put it in the front yard, start from standing right next to his bed and saying “place” when he’s on the bed reward with “yes” and treats when releasing him say “break” as the session goes on stand further and further from the bed to see where the duration is for him. Focus: Distance A
