Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) Comment: Jax first session was loose lead walking. At first he was quite excited and doing a little dance at the start of the walk! However he soon got quiet when he saw the sheep. He did a little pulling towards them but as it was downhill the trainer keep walking and Jax started to focus on the trainer. The trainer then took Jax to the top carpark and he settled well. On the way back to the classroom Jax was interested in a nearby dog but was still calm and did a little pull but then focused back on the trainer. Great first session. Focus: Distraction C+
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: Drops were next up for Jax. He did struggle at first because he was quite excited. He didn’t want to get into position and was bouncing around. The trainer used the uhuh word and a little leash pressure. To help Jax settle into the session better the trainer practiced duration with food as a distraction. Jax did jump up to start with to get to the food but when he realised that the trainer had food he held his drops well. The trainer used the remainder of the session to do some repetitions with Jax to help get that stop happening quicker. At home work in low distracting areas and do a few drops with quick repetitions and then work on duration with low distractions. Focus: Distraction C+
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: Last up was place. The trainer worked on a single place to start with as Jax was keen to pop straight off place. Once Jax was doing better with holding place the trainer worked on sending Jax between two places. Jax did pull towards the bowl distraction at first but the trainer kept him busy with his job and Jax ended the session well with lots of focus. Focus: Distraction C+
