Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: Jax first session was drops by the kennel yards with a few noisy busy dogs. At first Jax was very slow and reluctant to go into a drop. The trainer did some quick repetitions to help get Jax thinking and focusing. From there he started to drop much better. The trainer started to increase the duration and Jax did a fantastic job! Next time the trainer will increase the distractions to really push Jax and get him to focus quicker. Focus: Distraction C+
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: Next session was place. The trainer enlisted the help of another trainer and worked on bubble distraction. Again Jax did a great job. The trainer started with a high frequency of treats but as Jax got used to the bubbles the trainer was able to reduce the frequency. Next the trainer used food as a distraction for Jax. Jax was sent to place to place and this helps him focus on his job and solidify his send to command. The food was placed off to the side as a distraction. Initially Jax was very excited by this exercise but the trainer got him settled on place and then lured Jax to the other place bed. By the end of the session Jax was going from one bed to the other without looking at the food. Next time the trainer will work towards moving the food closer. He did a great job! Focus: Distraction C+
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) Comment: Last up was loose lead walking. Jax did well with this although he did take a little time to settle. He pulled a few times as he got closer to the classroom or the office. Because of the this the trainer put him in a drop. This slowed his progress and kept his focus! It was great to see his drop duration improve during this session also. Focus: Distraction C+
