Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) Comment: Jax’s first session was loose lead walking. Today Jax was much more excited so was more inclined to pull if he thought he was heading somewhere he though was exciting. The trainer kept changing directions which kept Jax on his toes!! He also got excited when he saw other people, although he didn’t jump. Again the trainer changed direction and used the yes marker to get Jax to engage with the trainer again. It was a good session with Jax working out that pulling didn’t get him where he wanted to go. Focus: Distraction B
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: Next up was place. Due to rain the trainer did this inside and initially Jax felt that he could get off place as soon as the trainer moved. But in a very short space of time Jax worked out the boundaries and was able to hold place with the trainer moving around him. To add some distractions in the trainer used a bubble blower. Jax got very excited by that! To the point that that distraction is going to be a two persons job. One to blow the bubbles and the other to yes reward Jax! Goals going forward! The trainer did wave the bubble blower around with no bubbles and started conditioning Jax to that and he progressed well. The trainer also did lots of exaggerated movements like jumping and squatting to help Jax learn to stay on place. By the end of the session he was starting to lay down and not care what movements the trainer was making! Great progress. Focus: Distraction C+
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: Last up was drop duration. Again inside and againJax wanted to test those boundaries and not get into drop. Using a little leash pressure and Uhuh Jax started dropping better. However he the. Started to try and mouth the trainers hand that was using to signal drop! The trainer moved in a way that Jax could grab anymore and with a number of repetitions he started to settle. Then the trainer increased duration and Jax did a great job. The times he did break position was when the trainer squatted in front of him! It was great to see Jax progress but next time the goal will be that he settles quicker! Get those repetitions in at home with low distractions to really get him hearing drop and him getting in position straight away. Focus: Duration B
