Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) Comment: Jamie began his day practicing his ‘loose lead’ walking in the classroom with dog distractions. Jamie did really well! He was a little distracted at first, but after a minute or so he got into the rhythm of things and ignored other dogs beautifully, even a kelpie who was barking his head off! Jamie showed no signs of reactivity and walked nicely alongside the trainer. Keep pushing this at home, if you find for whatever reason he is not engaged, get a tennis ball out, he will do anything for one of those! Focus: Distraction B+
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: Next up, Jamie worked on his ‘place training’ focusing on duration with his biggest distraction; tennis balls! Jamie did EXTREMELY well!! He did break twice for a ball if it came too close to his place bed, but with the use of “ah ah” Jamie would somewhat give up the ball, but he would be cheeky about it. The trainer would then take a step back and roll, bounce and toss the balls in front of the bed from his critical distance and he resisted beautifully! The reward at the end of this session was him actually getting the tennis ball to play with and oh was he a happy boy! Keep pushing this with him at home! If you find he is struggling too much from a certain distance, increase the distance and try again. If he succeeds for 5 reps in a row, inch a bit closer and go again. Awesome work Jamie! Focus: Distraction B+
Skill learnt: Paws Up (on object) Comment: To finish off, Jamie worked on his ‘paws up’ skill, using our new big wobble board! He did extremely well and maintained great duration, which is awesome! This was all while there were 2 other dogs out, barking and doing all sorts. Jamie had the best engagement today and it was awesome to see. Our goal for Jamie on this board is to get him to sit on it and learn to balance. He came so close today, but would get frustrated and just jump over it. If you have any object at home big enough, work on getting him to put all for 4 paws on and lure into a sit. Awesome work, Jamie! Focus: Duration A
