Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) Comment: Due to the heat today the trainer made sure that Harvey kept cool by training him in the classroom in the aircon and took it slow today. He walked well to the classroom pulling still a little bit but responding well to the turning method! His door manned are also coming along well as he sat at the door 2/3 times today without a command! When in the classroom the trainer worked on his drop today with a focus on distraction, being a puppy high distractions are still a little too much for him so the trainer slowly worked up from stepping away slowly to jumping away, a good first session for mr Harvey. Focus: Obedience C+
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: For his second session today trainer worked on his place skill in the classroom. The trainer noticed that being close to the floor would entice Harvey and make him want to play with the trainer and break off place so the trainer used this as a distraction today. The trainer would lie on the floor and playing around a bit each time Harvey sat on the bed without moving he was rewarded, every time he left the bed to join the trainer he would be given his “uh-uh” marker and taken back on to the bed, through repetition the trainer was able to start getting Harvey to realise that he had to stay in place and not move! This was another good session from little Harvey and while he still had work to do on his skills since he is just a little puppy he is showing some great signs of progress on his skills which we love to see. Focus: Distraction C
Skill learnt: Exposure Comment: For his final session today to help beat the heat the trainer took Harvey to the shell pool we had set up and got him to go through here and have lots of fun! Getting into the shell pool isn’t all just fun and games, to help push him over the threshold and get him into the pool the trainer utilised the “luring” technique and just like with anything in dog training the more you do something the better the dog gets at it! Utilising his lures the trainer got him to go through the pool, once he had done it once it was on and the trainer couldn’t stop Harvey jumping in and around the pool having a blast! This was a great way to finish the day and make sure Harvey was nice and cool for the rest of the day sitting under the aircon in the pet resort accomodation. Focus: Desensitisation C
