Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) Comment: Loose lead was the focus for Giffy's first session and she did try to pull at the start. However, the trainer kept changing direction every time Giffy pulled and she was soon walking and engaging well with the trainer. She did really well for her first session and was much more settled today. Focus: Distraction C+
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: Place training was outside again for Giffy's second session. The trainer started off just using mild distractions such as walking away from Giffy and moving around. Giffy held place for those. However, if Giffy was petted while on place she then tried to walk off place when the trainer stopped the pets. The trainer also used throwing a squeaky toy to distract Giffy. She broke place at first, but as the session progressed she held place. It will be good to see Giffy resist those distractions right from the start of the session. But she is progressing well!! Focus: Repetition C+
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: Giffy smashed her drop session today, Yesterday she was no comfortable with the trainer walking over her or around her while she was in the drop position. Today she held position from the get go. The trainer started to push distance and duration. This meant the trainer walked away from Giffy and Giffy held that position for a short period of time. Giffy nailed this. Next time the trainer would like to push Giffy further with higher level of distractions. You can also do this at home. Whilst on walks get Giffy to drop at every second letterbox. (or the like!) Focus: Distraction C+
