Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Trick Training Comment: For Freya’s first session we worked on her hold trick. This is a good trick as it pushes her thinking. As we are still developing this trick for Freya we worked on getting her to mouth the ring. To begin with Freya was switching between placing her mouth on it and just touching it with her nose. Towards the end we were able to get Freya to place the ring fully in her mouth! This was achieved by using the marker ‘nope’ if she just touched it and ‘yes’ when she mouthed it. If she placed the ring fully into her mouth she was still told ‘yes’ however was given a handful of treats. Focus: Foundation B
Skill learnt: Trick Training Comment: For Freya’s second session we worked on her leg weave skill. This is a good skill to push Freya’s thinking. As we are still developing the foundations for this skill Freya is being lured between the trainers legs. Freya is doing well however at times she gets confused and was dropping instead. This is also a good thing as it shows Freya is thinking and trying to work out what is being asked. The next step for Freya will be to continue developing the foundations of leg weave. Focus: Foundation B
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: For Freya’s last session we worked on her drop skill outside. This is a good skill as it puts Freya into a controlled position around distractions. Freya struggled a little bit with her drops today. She only dropped about 50% of the time asked. When Freya didn’t drop she was told ‘uh uh’ and she often corrected herself when she heard this. When Freya did drop she was told ‘yes’ and given a few treats. The next step for Freya will be to continue working on her drops around medium distractions as she needs to know when asked to drop it is not an option. Focus: Distraction B
