Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Conditioning Comment: Frankie was quite nervous as we greeted her today. She tried to avoid interacting with the trainer as he came to say hello. We took it slow and let her have a quick minute to warm up to him before we made our way to the classroom. On our way down, she put on the brakes multiple times as she was unsure about where she was going. We got her to make her way down on her own, which didn't take much time. Once in the classroom, we went for a confidence walk around the room, with the only goal being to let her explore and get more comfortable in the new environment. Frankie walked around the room exploring, still avoiding the trainer but showing more confidence in the new area. Focus: Conditioning X
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: Next, Frankie worked on her place skill. We used this to continue building her confidence, getting her to climb up onto the bed before releasing her and getting her to jump off. This can be intimidating for some dogs in a new environment. Frankie was a little unsure but climbed up onto the bed each time with a little bit of guidance from the trainer. Frankie put the brakes on a few times throughout the lesson, not wanting to hop off the bed. After some repetition, she showed a bit more willingness to interact with the trainer, although still very unsure. Frankie finished the lesson happily jumping on and off the bed, as she was still learning the foundations of the skill. Focus: Confidence C+
Skill learnt: Paws Up (on object) Comment: Frankie finished by being introduced to a new skill named "paws up". This skill is where we teach Frankie to put her two front paws up on a step. This can help build confidence as well as a bond between the trainer and her. We used a bit of guidance on the lead to help her put her front paws on, making a big deal when she managed to touch it at all. We managed to get her to put her paws up on the step a fair few times before the end of the lesson. Focus: Confidence C
