Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: Finn’s first session was place near the yards with a number of barking dogs. It is a highly distracting environment for Finn. Not only were the dogs barking but they were running around as well. Finn, understandably was distracted and barked at times. The trainer rewarded when Finn was quiet. He did break from place a few times. However, overall he did quite well for the environment. Focus: Distraction C+
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: Drops was the second session for Finn and the trainer took him to the same spot. This time was the added distractions of noisey ducks nearby! Finn did struggle a bit more this time but didn’t bark at all. The trainer kept him further away than place and kept up the rewards. Considering the distractions Finn again did well and continued distraction pushing like this is going help Finn to learn that treats are still the best thing! Focus: Distraction C
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) Comment: Final session for Finn was loose lead walking. The trainer did this outside and Finn did struggle to engage with the trainer at first. The trainer worked back and forth in a small area, changing direction frequently. This encouraged Finn to focus a bit more. As the session progressed and Finn focused more, the area walked increased. Keep practicing this at home in the backyard and slowly increase the distractions. Focus: Distraction C
