Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Paws Up (on object) Comment: In enzo’s first session we trained place. He was abit nervous at the start but didn’t take him long to become his self when he saw I had food. It was nice to see enzo had a good concept of place. Today we were conditioning him to the new environment he was very excited, but he progressed really well and his engagement was all on the trainer. Focus: Duration B
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: Enzo’s second session we trained drops. He was very excited at the beginning so we did an engagement game, which all we do is when enzo would look at me I would reward with ‘yes’ and treats as that’s our reward marker. This skill helps them engage with you better and not the other distractions. We focused on his duration in the drops the meant lots of rewards to help him stay down, at the start he wanted to get up straight away then towards the end he progressed really well. Focus: Duration B
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) Comment: Enzo’s last session we trained Loose lead walking. Loose lead walking is hard for dogs to understand because no animal knows how to walk nicely on a lead as they aren’t just born with a lead. So practicing this is basically walking back and forth until he stops pulling once he looks up at you that’s when we reward with yes and treats because is engagement is on us and not what’s happening around him. He progressed really well, practice this skill in a low distraction environment because your not going to get his engagement around high distractions. So train this inside first then in your backyard and so on. Focus: Repetition B
