Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) Comment: For her first session today the trainer worked on her loose lead skills outside in the car park. However today since she has had a few sessions with us now the trainer wanted to start pushing some of the extra criteria in this skill to better push her skills. For instance throughout the session today the trainer would get Crystal to go into random sits as they were walking along, this tests both her sit skill as well as obedience. They also had challenges for her today, there was another dog walking around distracting her as well as s sprinkler throwing out water drops. The dog while initially distracting Crystal was able to start ignoring the dog through the trainer making themselves and staying near them more exciting then the other dog and she started showing some great engagement! She was also initially thrown off by the water droplets but she was way more interested in her food rewards so the trainer used lures to walk her through the sprinkler and on to the other side, after a few times she didn’t need the lure and was happily walking around the sprinkler! Focus: Conditioning C+
Skill learnt: Conditioning Comment: For her second session today the trainer wanted to work on something from our monthly theme of self care! Today the trainer did some conditioning with crystal to what we call the nail board! This is simple a wooden board with some course sand paper attached to it. The idea is that we get Crystal to run her paws along this board filing down her nails on her own rather than cutting them! She actually seemed to really enjoy doing this today as by the end of the session while the trainer hadn’t paired a verbal command to the skill yet she was successfully scratching at the board! In order to get her to do this the trainer shaped her behaviour, they first present a food reward in a closed fist to Crystal, once she got frustrated enough at not access the treat she tried pawing at the hand, this is when the hand opened and she got the reward, this was repeated until she was going for the paw scratch straight away 4/5 times, after this the trainer started putting the board over their fist having her hit the board until eventually they then removed the hand with the treat and just had Crystal hitting the board! Focus: Desensitisation C
Skill learnt: Trick Training Comment: For her last session today the trainer did a bit of training for next weeks valentines day! They worked on her Kiss skill which she actually loves to do! The trainer thought they would need to start from scratch however she already seems to know what the trainer wants when the purse their lips asking for a kiss!! She still needs to have the verbal paired with the skill but since she already had the basics down she was really quick to progress today! As you can see from her social video she was really kissing the trainer and doing it multiple times showing her understanding of the skill! This was a great way to finish her sessions today as it really solidifies this kind of hard work ethic in her behaviours and her routine! Focus: Conditioning B
