Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Trick Training Comment: For Cookies first session we worked on her chin rest skill. This skill is good as it teaches them to concentrate. To push Cookies skill we started to get her to balance stuff on her nose. To begin with Cookie was lifting her nose whenever the object was moved towards her. To reduce this Cookie was told ‘nope’ if she lifted her chin and the object was moved back. After a few repetitions Cookie started to hold her chin rest while the trainer placed different objects on her nose. For this session we used basic objects however once she is good at this they can be changed to balancing treats. The next step for cookie will be to continue getting her to perform her chin rest, however getting her to balance objects without lifting her chin when they are placed on her nose. Focus: Repetition B+
Skill learnt: Trick Training Comment: For Cookies second session we worked on her sit pretty skill. This skill is good for building muscle and concentration. As Cookie knows sit pretty we worked on her duration. To begin with Cookie was only holding her sit pretty for 2 seconds however was able to hold it for 6 seconds by the end. To increase her duration we increased it in 1 second intervals. After cookie held the sit pretty for a certain amount of time for 5 repetitions we increased it by 1 second. If Cookie broke before the target time she was told nope and asked to retry. The next step for Cookie will be to continue working on her sit pretty duration. Focus: Repetition B+
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: For Cookies last session we worked on her drop skill in the cattery. This is important for cat exposure. Cookie wasn’t phased by the cats while doing her drops. We walked past multiple cats and she dropped when asked. At times she even had the cats come up to the door and she was wagging her tail! The next step for Cookie will be to continue with cat exposure. Focus: Distraction A
