Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: Coco’s first session was place. This was started inside to help Coco settle with low distractions. When she was staying on place and her engagement was better the trainer took Coco outside. Here Coco encountered our caretaker with the ride on lawn mower. It was quite a busy area and Coco was a little hesitant. However as John came and went a few times Coco really settled into the session. The trainer also did a few little recalls and apart from the first one Coco did a great job. On place outside Coco was distracted at first and was stepping off place a number of times. But as the session progressed Coco was able to hold position longer. The trainer then started to increase the distance that Coco was able to go to place. It was a fantastic session and next time it would be great to see Coco settle into the session quicker. Focus: Distraction B
Skill learnt: Paws Up (on object) Comment: Next up was Paws up for Coco. A fantastic confidence building skill. The trainer choose a smaller object for Coco to put two paws up on, given she’d done this skill before. Coco was quite hesitant at first so the trainer used the bigger step. Once Coco mastered this the trainer took Coco back onto the smaller object and this time Coco nailed it. After doing this consistently a number of times the trainer got a new wobblier object. Coco got one paw on this so a goal going forward will be to get paws up on this item! Well done Coco. Focus: Repetition C+
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: Last up was drop. Again Coco wasn’t keen to start the session but after some cuddles and treats she was more engaged. The trainer lured Coco into a sit and got her to drop from a sit. Working on getting Coco to drop from a stand is the sun going forward. However, this will also progress as Coco’s confidence grows. She has gotten much more confident since coming to Dayschool and it is fantastic to see her grow in this area. Focus: Repetition C
