Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Obstacle Course (Confidence Building) Comment: Clarrie’s first session was the confidence course. This course is great for dogs who need that confidence boost. Once they get through it the dogs get excited with their success and it sets them up for their path forward. Clarrie struggled at first and needed lots of encouragement to start to go through the course. He did manage to make it most of the way. Next time it would be good to see him make it all the way through the course. Focus: Conditioning X
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: Next up was place training. Place gives a dog a spot to chill, helps with impulse control and in Clarrie’s exposure to stepping on something different. Clarrie didn’t want to be lured into the bed. In the end the trainer sat on the bed and then Clarrie was able to get on the bed as well and sit with the trainer. Valerie had lots of cuddles for a while and then the trainer got him getting on and off the bed numerous times! It was fantastic to see that small success! Focus: Repetition C
Skill learnt: Leave Comment: Last up was a confidence walk around the property. Clarrie was ok with this to the point that he was pulling. As he was confidence with the walk the trainer did some loose lead training with him. Every time Clarrie pulled the trainer changed direction. The trainer could only walk in a small area doing this for a while. But Clarrie did start to walk better. This is a good skill to practice at home in the hallway with low distractions. Focus: Distraction C+
