Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: For Chillis first session we worked on her drop skill. This is an important skill as when Chilli is better at her drops, it can be used to keep her in a controlled position around distractions. Chilli is still developing the foundations of this skill so we used a lure to get her into her drop. The trainer lured her under her leg with a trail of fritz and when Chillis bum hit the floor she was told ‘yes’ and the trainer gave her a handful of fritz. Chilli wasn’t going into her drop any other way so continue to practice the under the leg technique to develop her understanding of drop. If Chilli is dropping 99% of the time then you can start adding in the word. Focus: Foundation C+
Skill learnt: Crate Training Comment: For Chillis second session we worked on crate conditioning. This is a good skill as it allows Chilli to feel more comfortable in the crate. Chilli wouldn’t go near the crate to begin with however by the end of the session she was sticking her head in to get some treats. As Chilli wouldn’t go near the crate we used small steps which she can work up to stepping into the crate eventually. For today Chillis got as far as sticking her head into the crate. The next step will be to continue getting Chilli to go further into the crate with a lure. Focus: Conditioning X
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: For Chillis last session we worked on her place skill. This is a good skill as you can teach her to settle onto the bed. Chilli is still learning the foundations of place so was being lured onto the bed with fritz. As Chilli wasn’t following the lure the trainer instead threw the treats onto the bed. Chilli stepped onto the bed a few times however did struggle when there were other distractions around. The next step for Chilli will be to continue working on the foundations of place by using a lure around low distractions. Focus: Foundation C+
