Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Conditioning Comment: For chiefs first session we worked on conditioning him to the classroom. Chief was very overwhelmed by the classroom environment and wasn’t taking treats/ engaging with the trainer. Therefore we spent the session letting Chief explore and watch his surrounding to allow him to settle. Chief was also offered treats regularly however he wasn’t taking them. Towards the end Chief did end up licking some peanut butter off of the trainer fingers. Focus: Conditioning X
Skill learnt: Conditioning Comment: For Chiefs second session we worked on his conditioning to the classroom again however also incorporated conditioning the word ‘yes’ (reward marker). As Chief started to lick the peanut butter in the first session we were able to start conditioning the word ‘yes’. To do so whenever Chief explored or even if he was just sitting he would be told ‘yes’ and then given a treat. This allows us to mark the correct behaviour rather than thumbing around for a treat and possibly rewarding a different behaviour. At home continue working on this for 5 minutes each day until Chief started to turn his head around when told the word ‘yes’, this indicates that the marker has been charged. Focus: Conditioning X
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: For Chiefs last session we worked on conditioning to the classroom and his place skill. Place is a good skill as it teaches them to settle onto the bed and you are also able to send them away from distractions. Chief did so well in his last session and was taking treats every time offered. Chief also remained on the bed for majority of the session. The next step for Chief will be to continue luring him onto the bed to develop his place skill. Focus: Foundation C+
