Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Conditioning Comment: For his first session today Buddy went for a confidence walk around the property. He was quite nervous in this new environment which is normal for new dogs. Letting them walk around and explore their surroundings can help them relax a little bit, using their nose is a natural behaviour and can elicit a calming response. Buddy loves to use his nose and put it to work! Focus: Confidence X
Skill learnt: Conditioning Comment: For his second session today Buddy was still quite nervous so we did some conditioning to the classroom environment. This simply means we let him explore the surroundings while keeping it as positive as possible. We also started to condition him to the place skill. Since he wasn’t taking any treats we couldn’t do much in terms of training, we let him explore the place bed and get used to it. He seemed a little more relaxed by the end of the session but still didn’t take any treats. Focus: Confidence X
Skill learnt: Conditioning Comment: For his last session today Buddy worked on some more confidence building exercises. These included walking over different obstacles and doing some more exploring. Since this can be done without food reward it’s a great thing to do. Simply guiding them over things can give them a boost of self esteem. We used flower gardens and planks of wood that are in the carpark. He did well with these and even had a few cheeky photos! Keep pushing his confidence with new and fun things. Focus: Confidence X
