Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: In Buddy’s first session we trained emergency drops. Now with emergency drops it’s basically you saying drop, he goes into the position and you keep walking to either deal with other people come oh up or dogs. But first we start by putting him into a drop and taking a few steps forward like we’re going to keep on walking, then if he stays in the drop position we then reward with ‘yes’ and treats. He did do pretty good with this skill. Will take some practice if your out on walks and he’s jumping up on people, make sure you have treats on you put him into a drop foot on lead so if he goes to break he can’t go anywhere. Or do middles or spin make his brain think and give him a job to do. Focus: Repetition B+
Skill learnt: Middle Position Comment: Buddys second session we trained middles, because he knows this skill pretty well we then started getting him to walk in between our legs. Which he did amazing at. Again doing middles when your out for a walk doing skill to get his brain to focus back on you, if he’s to distracted then walk the other way and it might be to distracting for him. Practice these skills so when your out on a walk his engagement is on you not the distractions. Focus: Distraction A
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: Buddys last session we trained pace duration around other dogs and trainers. I wanted to do this skill because he does struggle to settle around other dogs and humans. Towards the end he was laying on the place and did really well, did break a few times so maybe practicing this skill at home when people come over or other the front when people are walking by. Focus: Distraction B+
