|Skill||Comment||We focused on||Grade|
|Skill learnt: Recall||Comment: Buddy’s first session today was recall. The trainer took him into the grassed area where all the good animal poo smells are. Buddy did well with the recalls on the long lead. He at times needed the leash pressure to remind him to return to the trainer. The trainer also rewarded Buddy running up to her without recall. This is to encourage Buddy to keep checking in. Keep practicing at home on a long lead so you can reinforce the command if Buddy doesn’t return. Ensure you are using very high value treats.||Focus: Distraction||C+|
|Skill learnt: Spin||Comment: Second session for Buddy was spin. We struggled with this one as Buddy kept wanting to lie down and was not keen to train. Maybe effected by the warmer weather. The trainer persisted and used a higher value treat to encourage Buddy around in a spin. There were a few good spins, it was a good intro into the skill. At home walk back one step to encourage Buddy forward then step forward with the treat in front of Buddy’s nose. Lure him around in a tight circle. Keep practicing until you can fade out the lure and use a hand signal.||Focus: Repetition||D+|
|Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull)||Comment: Final session was loose lead walking. Buddy did well with this outside. He did get distracted a few times but using his yes marker helped him engage again. He did pull and reacted when another staff member approached but when he was put in a drop he settled down straight away which was great! Practice drops when loose lead walking as it helps with engagement and works towards ignoring distractions.||Focus: Distraction||B|
