Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: In his first session, Buddy focused on further developing his skill place within the classroom. We focused on this skill to further develop his understanding of the place and to help him settle within the classroom. Buddy was initially nervous when entering the classroom, he struggled to show engagement and take treats. Using his skill place he quickly began to settle. Buddy performs well with this skill, he jumps onto the bed quickly but can struggle to hold duration. Today the trainer focused on building his duration and distance. Buddy progressed well throughout the session, he began to remain on place while the trainer moved around him and the room. Great progress. Focus: Duration B
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: In his second session, Buddy focused on further developing his skill drop around low distractions. We focused on this skill to build his duration and understanding of impulse control. Buddy follows a lure well into the drop position but can struggle to hold duration, this is expected as he is learning the skill. The trainer used a high reinforcement schedule (treats every few seconds) to encourage Buddy to remain in the drop. This worked well, he successfully remained on drop longer. The frequency of treats was slowly reduced as the session progressed. This is a great skill to practise at home. Focus: Foundation C+
Skill learnt: Paws Up (on object) Comment: In his final session, Buddy focused on further building his confidence using the skill paws up on a new wobble board. Buddy performed well, he quickly interacted with the wobble board and followed a lure to place his front paws onto it. As the session progressed, his confidence grew and he began to perform the skill before the trainer asked. This is great progress with his confidence. Focus: Confidence B+
