Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Middle Position Comment: Middles was first up today for Buddy and by the end of the session he was nailing it. At first Buddy was a little all over the place and very distracted. The trainer used lots of food lures to get Buddy to focus on the job. But as the session progressed the trainer was able to use less of a lure and more of a hand cue! Next time the aim will be to remove the lure all together. Focus: Repetition B
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) Comment: Next up was loose lead walking in the grassed training area. At first he was very distracted by other dogs and all the smells and got excited. But the trainer used the yes marker and Buddy soon started to engage more. As the session continued Buddy progressed really well and the reward marker didn’t need to be used as much. Focus: Distraction B
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: Last session for Buddy was drops. The trainer took Buddy to the kennels. It was very loud and Buddy did struggle. The trainer took him to a little quieter section and he did a lot better and was able to hold position until released. Another trainer entered at this time and Buddy broke straight away to get to her and the struggled to get back into position. The trainer used the foot brake and Buddy soon settled enough that the other trainer was able to pet him! It was a very testing session for him and it will be good to repeat it next time. Focus: Distraction C
