Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Leave Comment: For his first session today boat was taken into the classroom and worked on his leave it skill. To start the trainer had low value treats curled in one hand and would present it, boat knew exactly what this was so this initially stage was easy for him to grasp and the trainer was able to progress the skill. To do this they started to slowly open the hand up with the low value treats in it and started using the verbal command first to test his compliance. He did awesome with this today being able to easily stop himself from eating the food in the hand, he was even able to start the next step which is for the trainer to start tossing food around and he did this for a short period before finishing this session. Focus: Repetition C+
Skill learnt: Recall Comment: For his second session today the trainer worked on Boats recall skills. To do this today they took him out the front in the lawn and on a long lead as he was doing so well last time with us with his recalls! Today the criteria was on making returning to the trainer reallt fun! The more fun we can make it for Boat the more likely and the quicker he will recall to us! To help with this the trainer didn’t just use food rewards but also when getting Boat to recall they made a massive deal about it, making happy noises and giving lots of cuddles! This paired with a little play makes coming back so much fun for Boat and who wouldnt like to recall to someone so fun!? Work on this at home with Boat, make returning to you more fun and interesting that what ever has gotten his attention!m, teach him that you’re the best thing in the planet and no matter what he is confronted with he will always want to come back to us over anything out there! Focus: Distance C+
Skill learnt: Trick Training Comment: For the final session today the trainer first worked on Boats drop before doing a few tricks with him to finish the day out on some fun! His drops are doing really well, so well in fact that the trainer tested him today by getting him to do a drop while he was walking and maintain this drop while the frisbee continued moving forward! This was a great improvement on his drop skill and while he isn’t fully competent he showed great ability to learn quickly today which is always awesome to see in such a young pup! The trainer also started a little touch targeting and roll over trick training, touch targeting is simply getting Boat to touch things with his nose or paw and is simple to train, present the item you want him to touch and when he does so with his nose or paw we reward him, when he is doing it consistently we can then start pairing the verbal! His roll over is also looking great, he is still being lured over to initiate the roll however he is doing it with such enthusiasm the trainer is confident next time he comes in they will be able to start phasing out the lure and getting him to do the roll all on his own! Focus: Foundation C+
