Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: In his first session, Blue focused on further developing his skill drop within the classroom with 5 dogs visible in crates and one dog training. Blue performed very well, he was initially interested in the dogs but redirected his focus quickly onto the trainer. Once engaged he performed well, he responds to the verbal cue drop but can struggle with duration. With some guidance, he quickly began to maintain his drop well. This is a great skill to focus on at home, working on his duration (time in drop) and beginning to build distance (taking a step away/ walking away/around him) while he remains in drop. Focus: Distraction B
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: In his second session, Blue focused on further developing his skill place within the classroom with the same dogs as his previous session. Blue performed very well! He showed great engagement with his trainer and ignored all the other dogs. Because he was performing well, the trainer challenged him with remaining on place while the trainer bounced a ball in front of him. He initially broke as he loves balls, however with some guidance he slowly began to remain on the place. Focus: Distraction B+
Skill learnt: Spin Comment: In his final session, Blue focused on learning the new skill spin in the classroom with two dogs visible in crates. We focused on this skill to help redirect his focus when distracted and to help reduce his pulling when on lead. Blue performed well, he quickly followed the lure in a 360-degree circle. Blue loved training this skill, he was very excited and showed amazing engagement. This is a great and easy skill to practise at home, when sitting on the couch have some treats with you when he approaches lure him around 360 degrees then throw a treat. It is a great mental and physical exercise for him. Focus: Foundation C+
