Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: Our first session with Bleu focused on his exposure to other dogs and people through his place skill. This allows him to improve his focus and settle around new distractions. We practiced the skill in the classroom as this environment allowed for controlled exposure to other dogs at a distance. Bleu understands the foundations of the place skill relatively well and only broke from position a couple of times. With further practice, Bleu will continue to improve by increasing his duration and focus. Focus: Distraction B
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: The second session with Bleu was his drop skill, surrounded by people and dog distractions. The various distractions in the classroom created a more challenging aspect but he was still able to demonstrate an understanding of the skill. Bleu sometimes required a hand lure to guide him and lacked in duration. Continue to practice this skill at home with distractions to gradually build the duration. Focus: Duration C+
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) Comment: Our final session for today focused on Bleu’s loose lead. This was completed outside the classroom where there were various new smells and sounds, particularly dogs barking. He was able to demonstrate a good loose lead at times and held a nice pace. However, his engagement could still be further improved through more practice and positive reinforcement using treats. Keep it up! Focus: Distraction C
