Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) Comment: Bentleys first session today focused on his loose lead walking with people and dog distractions present. We walked up and down the carpark and also in the grassed training area while Kate was training another dog. We also worked on his engagement while John was doing maintenance in the paddock. Bentley did really well, he didn’t seem bothered by the other people or dogs in the environment nor was he looking around for his owner! He was a little bit pushy with which direction he wanted to go at the start but the trainer was able to get him into the groove of training by constantly changing directions and using their body to guide him along. Good work Bentley! Focus: Distraction B
Skill learnt: Targeting (touch) Comment: For his second session today we worked on a new skill of “touch”. To do this we had him on place in the classroom and presented a touch stick in front of him. He wasn’t very interested in it so we rubbed some fritz over the end of it to make it smell nice. He did manage to touch it twice throughout the entire session. This is a good trick to help with engagement and also is just a fun one. Keep working on this at home, just work on getting him to show any behaviour towards a touch stick or your hand! Focus: Foundation C+
Skill learnt: Trick Training Comment: Bentleys last session focused a little bit more on his touch skill as well as around! Bentley still didn’t show much interest in touch but he did do it a few more times than before, so he did show some progress. With his around skill he also did much better, he is getting quicker and quicker. A few times though he did pull towards the door but we were able to direct him back to the skill at hand. Bentley is doing so well, especially with a new trainer! Focus: Foundation B
