Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: Beani worked on this skill in the classroom, focusing on building a bond with his new trainer. We focused on getting his engagement on his trainer before doing some quick repetition, getting him to quickly jump on and off to have some fun to help build a positive association with the new person. Beani got distracted a bit, focusing on the other dogs working in the classroom, but we quickly got his attention back on the task. Focus: Repetition B
Skill learnt: Paws Up (on object) Comment: Beani worked on his paws up skill, helping to build his confidence. At this point, Beanie was comfortable working with the new person. Beani took a few slow repetitions to get comfortable with the skill, getting quicker and quicker each time. At the start of the lesson, beanie needed a lure to get him to jump up, but by the end of the lesson he was hopping up with just a hand gesture and his “paws up” verbal. Focus: Confidence C+
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) Comment: We took Beani just outside the classroom, working on keeping his attention throughout our walk. Beani pulled ahead periodically throughout his lesson, but with a quick reminder we got him to make his way back to our side and continue with the skill. The grassy areas were a bit too distracting for him at this point as he wanted to explore the smells, so we stuck to the concreted areas. By the end of the lesson, Beani was staying by his trainer’s side more often, sticking with him throughout all the turns. Focus: Manners B
