Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) Comment: In his first session, Barney focused on further develop his skill loose lead around the pet retreat facility. We focused on this skill to build his engagement and reduce his challenging behaviour of pulling. Barney was initially over excited about training and struggled to show engagement and pulled on the lead. The trainer incorporated his known skill of drop, this helped Barney relax before walking again. Barney quickly redirected his focus and started to build good engagement. Once engaged, Barney performs well, ignoring people, cars and dogs. Focus: Distraction B+
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: In his second session, Barney focused on further developing his skill drop with duration under distraction. We focused on this skill to further his understanding of impulse control. Barney performed well, he did not break drop for balls or toys. The trainer challenged him further with dog distractions (Quico). He was very interested in the dog and broke drop several times. However, with some guidance he began to maintain it well. He successfully remained in drop while Quico did spin in front of him (see our Instagram story). Focus: Distraction C+
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: In his final session, Barney focused on further developing his skill place with duration under distractions. We focused on this skill as Barney can struggle to remain on place while his parents have dinner. Barney successfully remained on place while there was multiple food distraction both dog treats and trainers eating lunch. Barney was initially interested in the food, but after some time he ignored it and went to sleep. Focus: Distraction A
