Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: For Barney’s first session we worked on his drop skill outside. This is a good skill for Barney as he can be placed into his drops to settle when he gets very excitable. Barney started off amazing and was going into his drops with only a strong verbal command. After about 5 minutes Barney started to go downhill and wasn’t going into his drops anymore. The trainer used ‘uh uh’ when this occurred and also started to hold his duration for abit longer so he could settle before being released. Barney started to do well again towards the end however he still needs to work on his drop skill outside as he did get distracted for about 4 minutes of the session. Focus: Distraction B
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) Comment: For Barney’s second session we worked on his loose lead outside. This is a good skill as it allows Barney to walk nicely on the lead. Barney did so well during this session and showed some excellent engagement. To begin with we just worked on loose lead however as he did so well we started to add in spins. This is a good way of keeping Barney’s attention on you as it gives walking some excitement. The next step for Barney will be to work on his loose lead outside around dog or people distractions. Focus: Distraction B+
Skill learnt: Trick Training Comment: For Barney’s last session we worked on his sit pretty trick. This is a good trick for building muscle and balance. Barney struggled abit with his sit pretty however after a few minutes started to follow the lure into it. He often used the trainers arm to hold himself up however as he is still learning the trick this is ok. At time Barney would lift his bum and stand on his back legs, when this occurred he was told ‘nope’ to try again. The next step for Barney will be to keep working on the foundations of sit pretty so he can build enough muscle to do it himself. Focus: Foundation C+
