Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) Comment: For Baloo’s first session today we worked on his loose lead outside with dog distractions. He was quite distracted at the start of the session when we left the kennels but after working on some door manners and some drops he quickly started to gain some focus. His loose lead skill is pretty good however he would pull ahead sometimes and loop around the trainer getting all tangled up. To help him figure this out we lured him back into the heel position and started walking again. To work on this it just needs practice in different environments, however he is already pretty good with this. Focus: Distraction B
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: For Baloo’s second session today we worked on sending him to place outside, slowly increasing distance. He absolutely smashed this skill and we even tested his release word. We had lots of fun with this, we would send him to place from the full length of the long line and then reward him. Once we walked back out to the full length we shouted random words at him, trying to get him to break position. He is so smart and didn’t budge until we said his actual release word. A couple times he was a bit slow to get on place but as soon as we corrected him verbally he quickly ran to place and stayed there. To work on this it just needs practice, the weekly classes and environment at day school is perfect to really push this skill! Focus: Distraction A
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: For his last session we had some fun working on his drop durations while we had a little photo shoot for his birthday! He did pretty well with this and managed to only break position once during the whole session! Different distractions will be crucial to Baloo’s training but he will take it all in his stride if it’s introduced slowly! Focus: Repetition A+
