Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: For Baloo’s first session we worked on his drop skill. This skill teaches them to settle. Baloo started off well and was dropping when asked so we started to push him with his distractions. We introduced tennis balls slowly and were able to progress to rolling multiple tennis balls along the floor while Baloo remained in his drop. The next step for Baloo will be to continue working on his drop skill pushing his distraction even further. Focus: Distraction B+
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: For Baloo’s second session we worked on his place skill. This skill allows them to settle into a position. To begin with Baloo was a bit nervous around the scarecrows outside so we spent some time conditioning him to them. This consisted of rewarding him whenever he looked at them or moved closer. After a minute he appeared more comfortable around them, and we started to work on being sent to place. Baloo did really well and went to place when asked so we started to increase the distance. He did well until we got to about 4 metres away and he started to lose focus. If he was asked to go to place and didn’t go, he was told ‘uh uh’ and then put onto place. After being told ‘uh uh’ once he started to go to place from a distance of 4 metres. While he was going to place from this distance, he was still sniffing the floor along the way and therefore the next step for Baloo will be to continue working on being sent to place from a distance of 4 meters. Focus: Distance A
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) Comment: For Baloo’s last session we worked on his loose lead walking outside. This skill is important for nice walking without pulling or zigzagging. Baloo did really well throughout this session and only got distracted a couple of times. Majority of the time he showed good engagement with the trainer. The next step for Baloo will be to push his distractions for loose lead walking Focus: Distraction A
