Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Conditioning Comment: Baloo’s first session challenged him to conquer his fear of the hanging bell! It is definitely noise related as he is hypersensitive to the bell when it goes off. To help adjust him to the noise the trainer would ring it softly and reward him after the noise. He was also encouraged to approach the rope on the bell through luring and shaping. He was very nervous with this but by the end of the session he was touching it and starting to mouth at it. Focus: Confidence B
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) Comment: Before the wet weather came in we took the opportunity to work on Baloo’s skills in a distracting environment so we ventured to the Pony Oval. Baloo was head down and bum up during most this session so our main focus was encouraging him to check in and not pull towards the smells on the ground. He did okay with this but would be a good area to focus on more at home when on walks. When he is getting too distracted say his name and lure him (food on nose) to look at you, then reward with ‘yes’. Reward for check ins as well (if he voluntarily looks up at you). Focus: Distraction B+
Skill learnt: Recall Comment: To further challenge Baloo we focused on distraction recalls for his last session. WOW he has come such a long way with this! We had the long line out on the Pony Oval with people and dog distractions and he did so well recalling from the distractions! Keep up the amazing work at home! Focus: Distraction B+
