Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Trick Training Comment: For Baloo’s first session we worked on his Quoits trick. This is good for making Baloo think but also increasing his concentration. As Baloo is doing well with his Quoits skill we started getting him to aim to put the ring on the stick. This involved Baloo picking up the ring and tossing it. If he moved the ring closer to the stick he was told ‘yes’. If he moved the ring further from the stick he was told ‘nope’. If Baloo got close to the stick he was also given a handful of treats rather than just one to show him that what he did is really good, encouraging him to do it more. The next step for Baloo will be to continue getting him to aim for the stick. Focus: Repetition B
Skill learnt: Trick Training Comment: For Baloo’s second skill we worked on his bang trick. Baloo did so well with progressing this skill! Baloo has the basic understanding of his Bang trick and majority of the time would play dead after being told ‘bang’. He would be given a few seconds to perform the trick and if he didn’t then he would be told ‘nope’. The next step for Baloo will be to continue working on repetitions as he is still isn’t doing the skill 100% time asked to. Focus: Repetition B
Skill learnt: Trick Training Comment: For Baloo’s second session we worked on his chin rest. As this is a new skill for Baloo we worked on building the foundations. This was done by place your hand out and luring Baloo’s chin onto it with a treat. When his chin hit the trainer hand he was told ‘yes’ and rewarded. Baloo did so well and picked it up easily. By the end of the session Baloo was even holding his chin rest for 10 seconds! The next step will be to continue working on building his duration. Focus: Foundation B
