Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Obstacle Course (Confidence Building) Comment: Bailey’s first session was the confidence course. This was to help Bailey settle the training ahead as well as letting him experience the success that comes with going around the course. Bailey did well and was more than happy to follow the trainer around the course. Didn’t want to go around without trainer encouragement. But he did a great job. Awesome first session. Focus: Confidence X
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: Next up was place. Bailey did want to pop straight off place at first but using the Uhuh word and a little tug on the leash got Bailey back on place again. As the session progressed Bailey did better. However, he was quite vocal about being there. That being said he held place whilst he barked! The trainer was able to make lots of movements around Bailey and he worked well and held place better towards the end of the session. At home keep pushing the distractions and don’t allow Bailey to get away with getting off place before you’ve released him. Focus: Distraction C+
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: Last up was drop for Bailey. He wasn’t keen to start with. The Uhuh word was enough for Bailey to get into position. The trainer did a lot of quick repetitions to help Bailey start to get into position quicker and he progressed well! As he was doing better the trainer took Bailey outside to practice with more distractions and Bailey did struggle. The trainer used a lure to get Bailey into the drop position. Bailey did well once in position and toward the end of the session was getting into drop without the lure. At home, same as place, keep pushing those distractions and quick repetitions will help get those drops quicker. Focus: Distraction C+
