Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Place Training Comment: Arnie’s first session today was intro to the yes marker and place. The yes marker is a reward marker that tells our dog they have done the right thing. Place is a great skill for a dog to learn as it encourages self settling and helps with impulse control. Arnie is very good motivated so it didn’t take him long to work out what he needed to do. By the end of the session the trainer was even starting to build duration and move a couple of steps away from Arnie. Great first session. Focus: Repetition C+
Skill learnt: Drop/ Down Comment: Next up for Arnie was drops. This is the perfect skill to help curb jumping and is an awesome controlled position. Arnie was very keen to follow the food lure into the drop position but also was just as easily popping straight back up again. So the trainer worked on Arnie’s duration, the ability to hold the position for a length of time. He progressed well with this and going forward it will be good to increase the distractions. Focus: Repetition C+
Skill learnt: Loose Lead (No pull) Comment: The last session for Arnie was loose lead walking. This was done in the classroom with minimal distractions. Arnie followed a food lure and when he pulled the trainer changed direction. More practice with little or no distraction is needed before increasing distractions. But he did a great job. Focus: Repetition B
