Skill Comment We focused on Grade
Skill learnt: Trick Training Comment: For Arlo’s first session, we kept practicing his ‘ring toss’ skill. He does very well in picking up the ring, but still is not fully understanding to drop it on the stand. The trainer took time today to encourage him to drop it closer to, if not on the wooden stand. Arlo would get a bit frustrated if he didn’t get a reward for just picking it up and dropping it, but he soon understood he only got the delicious treatos if he hit the wood, which is great!! Keep practicing at home and be sure to only reward him if he actually gets closer to the target! Focus: Repetition B+
Skill learnt: Paws Up (on object) Comment: Next up, Mr Arlo worked on his ‘paws up’ skill, focusing on duration. Although he had good understanding of this skill, he will only remain on the pod if there is a treat lure in front of him, once that is taken away he will step off. We want Arlo to remain in paws up until released. Today the trainer still lured him on, but once the treats were gone, we would use his release word just before he stepped off, this is to just get him used to hearing his release word before he steps off. Keep doing this at home and training him to only hop off once released. Use lots of treats as well to build his duration!! Focus: Repetition B+
Skill learnt: Trick Training Comment: Arlo Focus: Repetition A+
